clough stat 1Brian Howard Clough was born on the 21/03/1935 in Middlesbrough, North Ridingof Yorkshire, England.

He died on the 20/09/2004 at the age of 69, in Derby, Derbyshire, England.

Brian played for Middlesbrough and Billingham Synthonia at youth level before joining his home town club as a senior in 1955.  He scored 204 times for Boro in 222 games.  Clough moved onto Sunderland in 1961, where he spent 3 years.  He scored 63 times in just 74 games, before injury brought an abrupt end to his playing career at the tender age of 29.  In 1959 he won his only 2 caps for England, he made his England début against Wales and his last game for his country was against Sweden.

Brian Clough first went into management in 1965, when he became the boss at Hartlepool United.  He went onto manage Derby County and turned them into 1st division champions.  He had short spells at Brighton and then Leeds before winning two championship titles with Nottingham Forest, before leading the club to back to back European Cup victories.
